What is SSC MTS Exam?
Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) Examination is a competitive examination for selection as an employee in various departments of the Government of India including Havildar in CBIC and CBN. The essential qualification for this exam is Matric pass (10th class). With this qualification any Indian citizen can apply for SSC MTS exam if otherwise eligible. SSC MTS exam is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) once in a year.
Important Dates for SSC MTS 2023
SSC MTS 2022 Recruitment could not be started in the year 2022, so this notification for the year 2022 is being released on January 17, 2023. And the notification for SSC MTS 2023 will be released on June 14, 2023. The dates for SSC MTS Exam in 2023 are given in the table below.

Eligibility for SSC MTS Exam

SSC MTS 2023 Selection Process
As per the SSC MTS 2021 notification, the selection process of SSC MTS exam consists of an objective type computer-based test followed by a descriptive test of essay and letter writing in any preferred language. Firstly candidates are shortlisted on the basis of Computer Based Test (CBT). Shortlisted candidates were then called for descriptive test. The descriptive test consists of essay and letter writing in pen and paper mode.
Physical Test is conducted only for CBIC/CBN Havildar vacancies.
Finally, a merit list is prepared on the basis of combined marks of CBT and descriptive paper. Candidates in the merit list are called for document verification and subsequent joining process.
SSC MTS 2023 CBT Exam Pattern & Syllabus
Computer Based Test (CBT) exam is conducted at various centers across the country. The time duration of the written test is 90 minutes. The written test consists of a total of 100 questions from General English, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness and Reasoning and 25 questions from each subject. One mark is given for each correct answer and 0.25 mark is deducted for each wrong answer.
Descriptive paper is conducted only for those candidates who qualify the CBT/Tier-I exam. Tier-II or descriptive paper consists of essay and letter writing in any of the languages included in the 22nd Schedule of the Constitution of India. The time duration of the descriptive paper is 30 minutes. The descriptive paper is conducted for a total of 50 marks.
Physical Efficiency Test (PET) is conducted only for the post of Havildar in CBIC and CBN.

SSC CBIC, CBN Havildar Physical Test
Physical Measurement Test (PMT) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET) is conducted for the candidates who qualify the written test.
The height requirement for CBIC/CBN Havildar is 157.5 cms for males and 152 cms for females. Male candidates should have minimum chest size of 76 cms with minimum expansion of 5 cms.
Male candidates will also have to complete a walking test of 1.6 kms in 15 minutes. While female candidates will have to walk one kilometer in 20 minutes.
