It is a laminated card which comes in the size of a bank card. Each sister has 10 digits which are made up of a specific alphabet and letter combination. Its structure is as follows.
The first 5 characters are alphabets followed by 4 digits and finally a letter is alphabet.
The first 3 letters of God are the 3 letters that form the letters AAA to ZZZ.
The first five letters are always letters that contain 4 digits and are followed by another letter.
Why is PAN card necessary?
The primary objective of the PAN card is to provide a universal identity to all financial transactions as well as to prevent tax evasion by tracking monetary transactions. It even allows easy retrieval of PAN holders information as well as matching of multiple investments, instances and other business activities of PAN holders.

The government has made it mandatory for everyone to link their existing Aadhaar number with PAN card. As per the Central Board of Direct Taxes update, the deadline for linking PAN with Aadhaar card was March 31, 2022. But now the government has extended the last date for linking PAN with Aadhaar card from 31st March 2022 to 31st March 2023. However, a nominal fine has also been imposed for this.
As per section 139A of the Income Tax Act 1961, if your Permanent Account Number is not linked to your Aadhaar, it will become invalid from 1st April 2023. If the PAN card holder fails to meet this deadline, the 10 digit unique alphanumeric number will become inactive.
How to check your PAN card is valid or not?
1. Visit the Team Filing website of the Income Tax Department.
2. Next to the home page, click on the Verify Your Pen option.
3. After this you will be redirected to a new webpage. Required details like PAN number, name, date of birth and contact number have to be entered.
4. After entering the information you will be directed to another page where you will need to enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
5. Enter OTP and click on Validate option.
6.If your PAN card information has not been duplicated or issued to multiple people, the last page will show “PAN is active and is in possession of Bashatra”.
