Rajasthan Police’s female trainee sub-inspector (SI) Naina Kanwal, arrested from Rohtak on Friday, is an international-level wrestler and a resident of Sutana village in the district. He is active on social media platforms and has a long list of followers. After his arrest, the Rajasthan Police has suspended him.

On Friday, Haryana Police personnel along with Delhi Police had gone to arrest Sumit Nandal, wanted in the kidnapping case registered at Mohan Garden police station in Delhi in 2021, from an apartment in Rohtak.
As the Rohtak police team knocked on the door, a woman with two pistols in her hands opened the door. When he saw the police, he threw the illegal weapon outside the house.
The police team immediately nabbed the woman, who was later identified as Naina Kanwal, a trainee SI in Rajasthan Police. The police have registered a case against him under the Arms Act and arrested him. The police have also recovered two country-made pistols thrown from him. On Saturday, the police produced him in the court from where he was sent to judicial custody.

His father Ramkaran and mother Bala Devi were former sarpanchs in Sutana from 2005 to 2015. Born in February 1996, Naina was fond of wrestling since childhood and won the title of ‘Haryana Kesari’ seven times. She wanted to join the police department and spent three years in Nidani learning wrestling. But she could not join Haryana Police. After this she started playing for Rajasthan and joined Rajasthan Police on the basis of sports.
He has also participated in several international wrestling competitions held in Mongolia, Hungary and Romania and won a gold medal at the Asian Championships in Mongolia in 2019.
She moved to Rohtak in 2018 and started training there at the Sir Chhotu Ram Stadium. Earlier she used to go to Rohtak regularly from her village, but a year and a half back she shifted to a flat in Rohtak.

A villager, on the condition of anonymity, said that a case was already registered against his mother, Bala Devi, who was the former sarpanch of the village from 2010-15. A case was registered against Bala Devi for allegedly embezzling Rs 92.32 lakh from the panchayat fund by forging the signature of the Deputy Commissioner of Panipat. He is out on bail on the orders of the High Court.
Naina’s father is also allegedly involved in embezzlement of panchayat funds.
