These states include Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. Rajasthan is the first state to implement the old pension scheme, similarly Himachal Pradesh has also recently decided to implement the old pension scheme from April 1. Rajasthan Rajasthan

Ashok Gehlot Gehlot’s Congress government in Rajasthan has successfully implemented the Rajasthan Applied Old Pension Scheme. Rajasthan became the first state to adopt the old pension scheme. Presenting the state budget 2023-24, CM Gehlot has announced to give the benefit of old pension scheme (OPS) to all serving and retired employees instead of new pension scheme.

Chattisgarh

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has given the employees in the state of Chhattisgarh the option to choose between new and old pension schemes. The cabinet has decided that the employees can go back to the old pension scheme by depositing the contribution made by the state in the National Pension System and the dividend received thereon.

Jharkhand

On 1 September 2022, Jharkhand decided to implement the old pension scheme and included the old pension scheme in the state in the election promises of Hemant Soren’s government.

Punjab

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwat Mann had talked about implementing the old pension scheme in the state in November 2022. After this decision of the state government, now more than 1.75 lakh government employees are going to get the benefit of the old pension scheme.

Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh has also contributed in implementing the old pension scheme. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has approved the implementation of the old pension scheme as promised in the ongoing state cabinet meeting.

Under the old pension scheme, before 2004, the government used to give a fixed pension to the employees after retirement, which was based on the salary of the employee on retirement. Under the scheme, after the death of the retired employee, his family members are given the benefit of pension. Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government had decided to discontinue the old pension scheme on 1 April 2004. After this, in 2004, the National Pension System was started in place of the old pension scheme.
