Changing the name on a reserved train ticket has now become even easier. Northern Railway (NR) has implemented several notable amendments and relaxed some rules to streamline the process. As a result, authorized officers posted at almost every Northern Railway station can now accept applications, verify required documents and facilitate name change on journey tickets.
Northern Railway has many important stations including major stations like Prayagraj Sangam as well as minor stations like Phaphamau and Phulpur in Prayagraj. To prevent touts and middlemen from taking advantage of these loose rules, the authorities have insisted on intensive checking at various places.
As per the revised policy, passengers are now allowed to request a name change on their confirmed ticket within 24 hours. While the option of changing the names of family members on train tickets has been available for a long time, according to a letter issued by the Railways, many other relaxations have been given.
Railways have also issued special instructions to government departments in this matter. Be it a police or administrative officer, a government duty employee, a school or college student, or a member of a procession, their ticket can be modified as per the newly established rules.
For example, suppose a ticket is reserved in the name of a police officer who is assigned to perform administrative work at a certain location. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, he is not able to go on duty and someone else will be sent on duty in his place. Thus, it is now convenient to modify the name on the ticket without completely canceling the reserved ticket. Similarly, the names of the students can also be changed on the request of the respective school or college administration, thereby providing more flexibility and ease in ticket management.
The same rule will apply to ‘marriage procession’ or pilgrimage
A person has made a bulk reservation of railway tickets for “marriage procession” or “pilgrimage” and situations arise where a person is unable to participate in the journey, now the name of the ticket is changed to someone else’s name possible. This flexibility allows for seamless adjustments to accommodate unforeseen circumstances and ensures a seamless travel experience for all involved.
According to Rekha Sharma, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Northern Railway, Lucknow, the process of changing the name on reserved train tickets has been simplified. At stations without gazetted officers, both the Chief Reservation Supervisor (CRS) and the Reservation Supervisor in charge (RS) are authorized to facilitate the name change. If a passenger is a Government servant and the appropriate authority responsible for sanctioning Government travel submits a written request at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, the reservation made in the name of the Government servant may be transferred to another Government servant. can be done. can be transferred. duty, even if the initial passenger is unable to travel.
Further, if a passenger makes a written request to transfer his reservation to any other family member, such as father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, husband or wife, at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, Yes, their request will be accepted. This provision allows greater flexibility and enables passengers to transfer their reserved tickets to eligible family members for a more convenient and seamless travel experience.
